Happy Birthday, Maureen O'Hara!

One of the greats. No question about it. She's 86 today.

I'm stilled ticked off she didn't get an Academy Award for her Mary Kate Danaher role.

I just loved her in Big Jake (my fav. J. Wayne movie) and McLintock!

She was great in everything. I can't remember the name of the pirate movie with Anthony Quinn, but that one brought many young guys in Mexia, Texas, to sudden puberty.

I believe that was "Against All Flags" with O'Hara playing the unforgettable Spitfire Stevens.

I'm reliving puberty just thinking about it.

One of only a few actresses who John Ford really liked. He treated her like one of the boys which for him was a high accolade indeed. And of course she was John Wayne's best co-star; Olivia de Havilland to his Errol Flynn if you will. If they were together in a film it was bound to be good even if she was only in it for a few minutes (as in Big Jake).

Maureen O'Hara is the answer to the question "What eighty-six year old woman can give a man half her age a woody?"
