Happy Birthday, Lou Reed!

Lou Reed is 65 today. Hard to believe.

Sure, the Velvet Underground was more than just the one guy, but to me he was the main man. "Heroin" and "I'm Waitin' for my Man" are pure Reed. I have all the Velvets LPs and most of Reed's solo LPs. Some great, great stuff there. "Satellite of Love." "The Ocean." "Walk on the Wild Side." Happy Medicare, Lou!

You were at that panel at ConMisterio with Fender Tucker, Dennis MacMillan, and... uh... the lead singer from The Skunks, weren't you? The first song they did was "Waiting For My Man".

But not like Lou! That was Jesse Sublett who was in the Skunks.

But do you like METAL MACHINE MUSIC? Meanwhile, WHITE LIGHT WHITE HEAT has an understanding of the demimonde that MURDALAND is still attempting to master...

I have to confess that Metal Machine Music is one I didn't buy. White Light White Heat, however, is one I own. I should get all those things on CD, I guess.

No Syracuse U. grad has ever had a better understanding of the twilit half-world than Lou Reed.

Now that he's 65, do you suppose the first geriatric version of "Sweet Jane" can be far behind? Or maybe something about lingering on your pale blue bi-focals?
