Happy Birthday, Slim Whitman!

The Singin' Starduster is 83 today. I've confessed to my fondness for Slim's work before, but I'll mention again that I've seen him perform three times. I'll bet nobody reading this can make that claim.

I've seen him perform 38,000 times. In his commercials.

I should have known you'd be far ahead of me.

Anyone who saw Mars Attacks knows that he saved us from the Martians.

And for those exploding heads we should be eternally grateful.

Do you have that autographed picture of Slim that is shown in the post? Didn't we get that at the Austin show where we saw Slim Whitman?

I think you were supposed to mail it to me.

The song used in Mars Attacks is actually one of my favorite Slim Whitman songs.

I stole that photo off the 'Net. I wish I did have his signature. I'll bet you got an album signed at that show.

You haven't lived until you've seen SCTV's "Indira" (spoofing "Evita") with Joe Flaherty playing "Slim Whitman as Che."

Sounds like a classic.

Am I the only one who thinks Slim looks like Tex Avery's wolf?

Well, now that you mention it. . . .

Allan Rast said...

I did. But I would like to have a signed picture too!
