I never understood the fascination with this book. I tried to read this disjointed rambling diary twice and will never try for the third time.

I like the (so far) only comment at the link:
"I first read On The Road when I was about 20, and thought it was great. When I tried to read it again a couple of years ago at...uhhh...a somewhat older age, I thought it was just plain boring. A bunch of extremely self-centered young people going from one place to another and getting drunk all the time, all while thinking that makes them adventurous and unique. Yeah, right....
At this point in life I think Kerouac's earlier novel The Town and the City is far better."

I read it at 16 and then again a few years later. Thought it was wonderful. Tried again a few years ago and gave it up after about 10 pages. Don't know if I'll try again.

I read the first section about 5 years ago, but had no urge to go on with the rest of it.
