F. Scott Fitzgerald worked on the screenplay for the first film adaptation of this book. It went through significant changes because of the political situation between the U.S. and Germany. I don't think Fitzgerald even got a partial credit on the final film. This is a major plot point in Stewart O'Nan's (highly-recommended) WEST OF SUNSET.

Fitzgerald didn't get a lot of screen credits, but I think he made a lot of money, which, after all, is what matters.
