B. B. King, R. I. P. B. B. King, whose world-weary voice and wailing guitar lifted him from the cotton fields of Mississippi to a global stage and the apex of American blues, died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was 89.

Hat tip to Jeff Meyerson.

Now the thrill is really, really gone. A great artist!

We last saw him in 2007. He had to sit on a chair most of the night but he still sounded great. We first saw him at the Fillmore East back in 1969 or 1970.

I miss the old days.

RIP indeed. I saw him in 1974, and when he did "Blues Power" it brought the house down. I may go listen to it right now.

Another favorite - "Nobody Loves Me But My Mother...and she could be jivin' too."

You know, I thought of Albert King's "Blues Power" briefly when I first heard the announcement, too.
