Many years ago, Jeff Smith sent me a copy of the movie version of THE HIGH CRUSADE on VHS tape. Pretty bad, I'm sorry to say. They could do it right these days, what with all the new CGI stuff.
Never into the Science Fiction thing, but Poul was a nice fellow/gentleman, and member of our San Francisco Sherlockian Scion, the Scowrers and Molly Maguires, for many long years.

I read THE HIGH CRUSADE long ago, but never got around to THE GOLDEN SLAVE.
I've read them both, but didn't like SLAVE that much. HIGH CRUSADE is great.
