"Contact is not a verb" was actually used as a plot point in one of Donald Hamilton's Matt Helm books. Helm realized that the person he was talking to over the phone was not his superior because he used contact as a verb and Helm knew his superior would not do so.
Well, they might get you "in trouble" if the person you're talking to knows you're using the words incorrectly. I gave up after receiving an email from an ENGLISH teacher that included the phrase, "Between you and I..."
