Are cassette players really going to make a comeback?: “We know that many of our customers have been buying cassette players for older friends and family to enjoy their favorite music from the 60s, 70s and 80s,” says Argos audio buyer Rachel Bartram.

We still get cassette tapes for our visually-impaired students. They seem to find it easier to find where they left off listening than they do with CDs. I suspect if not for audiobooks, the cassette tape would have gone the way of the 8-track long ago.
Cassettes had a lot of downsides-Breaking, getting caught in the player and fairly crappy sound.
I still have a LOT of cassettes from the '70s and '80s, audiobooks and otherwise. And I've got 2 or 3 dual cassette decks and a box full of working Walkman (and similar) tape players and CD Walkmans, along with 2-3 boxes of never-used blank cassette tapes, all picked up for a song from various thrift stores. I'm just not interested in MP3s...
I have a few hundred tapes left from the '70s & '80s, myself.
