Just before the movie was released, I tried to read Inherent Vice. I thought it would be right up my alley: Los Angeles in the late sixties/early seventies with a convoluted plot and a PI/noir theme, but I didn't think much of it. I thought it was very overwritten and self-conscious. I'd much rather read Raymond Chandler.

I'd rather read Chandler, too, but I did get a kick out of this one. I thought it was very funny.
I would rank V. and GRAVITY'S RAINBOW higher.
