My only submission to SHAYNE was to the editor who preceded Larry Shaw. I've forgotten who that was. Anyway, Shaw is the one who read the story. I got a very nice letter from him, asking me to change a couple of thing and saying he'd buy the story if I did. So I did. When I returned the story, Fritch was the editor. I got a nice letter from him, too, but he said he wasn't bound by anything Shaw had said and that he wouldn't be buying the story. So I gave it up.

I think I've asked before, but did you sell him anything as SHAYNE?

Wow. Well, I hope you didn't actually toss the story...sounds like it was pretty clearly on the verge of sale twice.
I sent it to Joe Lansdale, and it was published as a collaboration in a Canadian magazine. And reprinted in something like "The Worst of Lansdale."
