Apocalypse Now
While to the east of us Lee is flooding the countryside, Texas is burning. Wildfires all over the state, and some are out of control. The one near Bastrop is supposedly 10 miles long at this point and is about to be joined by another fire. The high winds coming from Lee are whipping the fires, of course. Parts of Interstate 45 north of Houston were closed earlier because of heavy smoke from other fires. All this is on top of all the other weather-related catastrophes this year, including the never-ending drought in Texas, where lakes and wells are going dry. I'm pretty sure the Four Horsemen are saddling up.

The Four Horsemen may be saddling up, but Heaven help them if they go on your lawn!
The weather has been wonky all over lately. My best hopes and wishes to all affected.
Here on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, we got over eight inches of rain in less than 48 hours. No flooding in our area, but some places closer to the lake did take on water. Ironically, one of the things that stopped Lee from dumping even more rain on us was the hot, dry air it was pulling in from Texas on its west side. I wish we could send you some of our rain and get some of those fires out. Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the fires.
This summer has just been weird.
Scary. We had an earthquake (OK, didn't actually have one but we felt it) and a hurricane hit New York the same week.
Arizona was even hotter than Texas - 112 when we were there. But no big wildfires at least.
Rick Perry to the rescue! Global warming is a myth.
Jeff
I live near Bastrop. We were a couple of miles West of the fire. We evacuated last night. Fortunately a good friend in Austin has a B&B that is vacant till Friday. Hopefully we'll be home by then.
Stay safe.
