I'm glad he includes my favorite musician in an acting role--Levon Helm in "Coal Miner's Daughter," but I disagree with him including Dean Martin. For many years, Dino acted as much as he sang; he wasn't a singer doing a one-off now and then.
Nat King Cole in CHINA GATE and CAT BALLOU . . . Roy Orbison in FASTEST GUITAR ALIVE (well, maybe not great acting, but the idea of Orbison as a singing Civil War spy is hard not to like) . . . Pat Boone was pretty good as a rich young wise guy in BERNADINE, forerunner of Tim Matheson's and Peter Riegert's ANIMAL HOUSE characters and Ryan Reynolds' Van Wilder . . . Keely Smith in THUNDER ROAD . . . Billy Ray Cyrus in MULHULLAND DRIVE (Cyrus should have played Bill Clinton in that recent cable movie about Clinton and Tony Blair, not Dennis Quaid) . . .
... Trini Lopez in THE DIRTY DOZEN . . . Diana Ross in LADY SINGS THE BLUES (did I miss this on the guy's list? ... hard to believe he didn't include it) ... Paul Robeson in THE EMPEROR JONES ...
This clown's musical knowledge is as scanty as his knowledge of film. No Dexter Gordon in 'Round Midnight? Academy Award Best Actor nomination counts for nothing? A.S.
I also would add Dexter Gordon in Round Midnight. Trini Lopez in Dirty Dozen? He was terrible. The director realised it and killed him off early. Also didn't like Dean Martin in westerns. He never looked like he belonged of the time period.

I'm sure Bill objects to the absence of Ricky Nelson, also in RIO BRAVO.
And where is Bobby Darin in CAPTAIN NEWMAN, M.D.?
Jeff
Well, at least he mentions Ricky.

James Taylor AND Dennis Wilson in TWO-LANE BLACKTOP.
This is one I haven't seen, but it sure seems interesting:

I would add Dean Martin in TOYS IN THE ATTIC along with Screamin' Jay Hawkins in MYSTERY TRAIN.
Or Joe Strummer in MYSTERY TRAIN.
