Not only that, but Britt Reid (aka the Green Hornet) was the great-nephew of the Lone Ranger. No kidding.
TLR's real last name was Reid. Some doubts exist as to his first name, since it was never really specified, although some say it was John. In any case, he and his brother Dan were Texas Rangers, who, along with several other rangers, were led into an ambush. All were killed except "John" Reid. He went on to become the Lone Ranger, dedicating himself to taming the West.
Dan's young son, Dan Jr, pops up occasionally during the Lone Ranger series, and he eventually grows up and inherits the silver mine from TLR. He then uses the money to start a newspaper empire in a large midwestern city. It is Dan, not James (as the current movie mistakenly names him), who will become the father of Britt Reid, alter ego to the vigilante Green Hornet.

Well now we'll all have to see the movie.
The least they could do was give her a screen credit, perhaps "inspired by" or something similar.
