Every week when we watch CASTLE (granted, not a forensic show but they do use some of the same tropes, like perfect camera enhancement of crime scene photos) we watch for the most recognizable (if B-level) guest star and know immediately that s/he is the killer.
On BLUE BLOODS every crime in New York - no matter what neighborhood, let alone borough - is invesigated by the same cop, Donnie Wahlberg, who happens to be the son of the Police Commissioner (Tom Selleck). Most also manage to tie in his younger brother (a rookie cop in uniform) and sister (an ADA).
Still, it's filmed here and Selleck's house is a few blocks from where we live so we watch it, only not for the realism.
I disagree on the female detective's uniform. The uniform is usually a low-cut blouse designed to make the most of the actress's cleavage. (The major exception to this rule is if the actress is pregnant.) Also, the uniform usually includes pants or a skirt design to show off a well-formed butt.

I am in favor of this "realistic' approach.
