Liked the movie, Mix Altman, Chandler, and the great Leigh Brackett together- you have a winner. One problem for me-I never cared for Elliot Gould. I would of liked someone else as Marlowe in this one.
Loved the soundtrack--which, if memory serves, is just the song "Long Goodbye" sung by different artists in different styles.
Not the most faithful Marlowe but still my favorite. The two scenes in which Gould lets the Marlowe mask of amused indifference slip are the best.
Altman/Brackett/Gould captured the edgy ambiance of those days before neo-noir, when the hard-bopiled PI was an anachronism
To this day I carry a pocket harminica around with me.
Marlowe seemed like he was gone 25 years and then woke up puzzled - the look says that, in a way.It may be this is not like the book, I have yet to read LONG GOODBYE but it may be fairly close. Schwarzenegger appears in a scene or two...
I've yet to read the book, but I like the movie a lot. I didn't mind Gould and I love those now-old L.A. locations. The trailer, however, is deadly dull - I'd never see the movie based solely on this trailer.
