I've always enjoyed McCrea in westerns. Besides Pechinpah's fabulous "Ride the High Country," my other favorite is "Colorado Territory." (which is sort of a Western version of "High Sierra")
What a resume he had: Hitchcock's "Foreign Correspondent, Sturges' "Sullivan's Travels" and one of my favorite Romantic Comedys "The More the Merrier." And on and on....
UNION PACIFIC is great fun. You can't go wrong with DeMille behind the camera, McCrea as the cool hero, Robert Preston as his slippery friend, Barbara Stanwyck as the feisty heroine, Overman and Tamiroff as the crusty sidekicks, and Donlevy and Quinn as the heavies.
I'm also fond of Wild Bill Wellman's BUFFALO BILL -- lump-in-the-throat moment at the end when a kid in the audience calls, "God bless you, Buffalo Bill," as McCrea rides off out of the spotlight at the close of his last Wild West show.

Count me in as a fan, too.
