He was not a novelist, but I'd still like an Honorable Mention for Edmund Lester Pearson.
Far more important and influential books by Goethe, Jacob Grimm, Hume, Leibniz, Mao Zedong, Georges Bataille and Roland Barthes IMHO.
I've actually read three of the books listed, and others by Borges.Jeff
