I just discovered that our local B. Dalton will be closing after Christmas. That leaves one bookstore (a small UBS) within a ten-mile radius from my home. About 25 miles away are a Books-a-Million and a Barnes and Noble. (Although I don't think my town is as big as Laredo.)
I was at said B. Dalton last night and everything was already 40% off. It looked so sad with half the shelves bare and obviously no attempt made to organize or straighten up any shelves that were in disarray. But in the "every cloud/silver lining" column, I stocked up on some stocking stuffer Christmas gifts.

With eBooks and the power of Amazon, we might all be heading in that direction.
All B. Daltons are being closed by B&N. I still think Borders/Walden is a good deathpool candidate, but they keep wobbling on, so far.
Bad management doesn't help.
