Geckos find their way into most Hawaiian houses, to make their odd ticking chirp (mostly good), eat the insects (good), and defecate (not so good, particularly to books). They rather resemble your friend there.
I think Anole is correct. Males can also inflate the sack under the chin, they change between brown (and colorful green) depending on need for camouflage. Totally harmless - very common (I lived in Baton Rouge about 8 years!) Steve

Anole? American cameleon. Cool all we get around here are aligator skinks.

How's the froglet?
The frog has departed. We're not sure when it left, but it hasn't been seen for a couple of months, at least.

They chirp a lot, and they move into the house now and then.
