Want to Read Something Really Scary?

Pupils start school still in nappies - Telegraph: "A growing number of parents are failing to potty train their children before sending them to primary school. Some parents have made it a low priority because they are too busy, while others have a more relaxed attitude and are happy to 'wait until the child is ready', according to teachers."

Of course that's England. It couldn't happen here. Could it?

i just read this 10,000 word article and have no idea what the hell they're talking about in it. or why. i do seem to remember wading, and i do mean with difficulty, like through waist-high water and in cement boots, through a lot of social theories regarding somethingorother. that whole "what, where, who, why, when" thing seems to have been erased from the journalism curriculum and replaced with something like code.

My daughter babysits a boy of four who's still wearing pull-ups.

My mother always contends that disposable diapers made it too easy to avoid potty training a child. Her comment: "When we had to wash those cloth diapers every day, we found a way to get the child trained sooner rather than later!" As for me (mother of three children--all long out of diapers, thank God), all I can say is if you "wait until the child is ready," you may be waiting a really long time.

Incidently, in our local school system, children are supposed to be potty trained before they start Kindergarten unless they have a disability which prevents them. Teachers are not there to change diapers.

Deb, same for the preschool Boy #1 went to. All the kids had to be out of pull-ups. Boy #2 starts the same preschool this fall and has been wearing underwear for a few months now.
