Actually, Bill, Frank Buckles is considered the last surviving *American* veteran of WWI, although John Babcock is an American who served in the Canadian Army. The British, I believe, have 2 surviving WWI veterans.
Fascinating. I remember when I was young that the media made a very big deal of counting down the last few Civil War vets. It had occurred to me recently that nowadays there would be few, if any, WWI veterans left, but this is the first time I've seen any attention paid from the news media.
