'Opus' is retiring Nov. 2: "'Opus,' the Sunday comic strip documenting the exploits of a big-nosed penguin by the same name, will appear for the last time on Nov. 2 because creator Berkeley Breathed has decided to stop drawing it, the Washington Post Writers Group said today.
The syndicate is expected to release further details this afternoon."

If you've been following the strip recently you know he's been working up to this as Opus makes reference to his creator. Apparently Breathed has some significant health problems that are leading to the end of the strip.
In the good old days strip artists continued their strips long after they were dead. Where are the Chic Youngs of today?
