KXAN.com - News, Weather, Sports - Austin, TX | City Of Austin Gives Away Free Toilets: "The City of Austin is giving away free low-flow toilets. The reason is that more than 60,000 homes and condos have toilets that are wasting water.
'The commodes typically use more water in the home than any other fixture or appliance,' said Mark Wieland with the City of Austin Water Conservation.
The City of Austin wants residents to change to low-flow commodes, because water treatment facilities are near capacity for treating the water you flush."

Every plumber who has ever come to our house has offered to get us (for a price) the "old" kind that actually dispose of waste. There must a hidden cache of them or someone still makes them.
Dave Barry used to write columns about this.
Only in Texas do I head people use the word "commode". Hank Hill had a problem with low flow toilets.
"Commode," which is no more euphemistic than "toilet," is actually pretty widespread in the Southeast. My mother's family tended to use that term.
They used to make the "old kind" up here in Canada but I'm pretty sure they've all gone low flow now. My toilet is 50 years old and works just fine btw.
The US should rue the day low flow toilets were invented.
They're awful. There are even people who will put bricks in the tanks of their toilets to save money. Good lord.
You know, if you go to another country, you get a nice, satisfying flush.
I'm not sure what's sadder, that the US has come to this, or that I get such satisfaction from posting this.
American toilets are water wise and fecal foolish. Thanks to our elected and unelected officials. God bless democracy.
So the Austin treatment facility can't handle the load. I could make a comment here that this proves Texans are the biggest shitters in the world, but I won't. I won't. The hell I won't!
