"I said lunch, not launch!"

Un-fricking-believable.

I always thought Manimal was the nadir but I never even heard of Automan. How stoned was Desi, Jr. when he made it and how badly did Robert Lansing and Gerry O'Loughlin need paychecks to agree to be in it?

The respondents at the original post are correct...CLEOPATRA 2525 was as Bergman's SHAME compared to such things as SMALL WONDER, HOLMES AND YOYO, LAND OF THE LOST, SPACE 1999, and any number of Spielberg and Irwin Allen tv atrocities. I found QUARK funny for an episode or so when very young...don't know what I'd make of it today.

And I didn't even mention the Universal horrors of the 1970s...Bionic People, CATTLECAR GALACTOSE...

Some people would argue with you about LAND OF THE LOST. It did at least have some big-name SF writers do the scripts.

As good as the current Battlestar Galactica is, that's how bad the original Battlestar Galactica was. And at that it was still ten thousand times better than Galactica 1980. And I think I'd have ot add to the list just about any show that Gerry Anderson produced that featured people instead of marionettes.

Indeed, about both the Andersons' UFO as well as SPACE: 1999 (they weren't involved with THE CHAMPIONS, where they?), and good writers working on LAND OF THE LOST...but the acting on that latter series was so atrocious, as I rediscovered a year or so back, that I'm not sure how even ingenious scripts might triumph.

Robert E. Howard fans would add Ralf Muller's syndicated CONAN series to the list.

I can't muster any fair degree of indignation about any of these shows, because it's axiomatic that Hollywood treats SF and fantasy like trash as a rule. So why expect anything different until shown otherwise? Most of these shows were essentially cops-and-robbers decked out with special or not so special FX, because some producer saw a chance to ride the success of a popular SF or superhero hit in the movies.

Also, confession time, I have a certain fondness for unabashed cheese. I used to watch Pam Anderson's VIP for the weekly scenes in which Pam and her foxy co-stars would lounge by the hot tub or pool in bikinis.

And who among us could blame you?

Still, Far Out Space Nuts: bad sci-fi, good comedy (for what it was - Saturday morning fare).

V.I.P., like CLEOPATRA 2525, had no pretense of being anything but a spoofy timewaster...somehow, the leaden camp of the Irwin Allen shows (LOST IN SPACE, LAND OF THE GIANTS, VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, THE TIME TUNNEL) grated on me much worse. Also, any series with Molly Culver in the cast gets much slack cut for it...even if she's in street clothes.
