Happy Birthday, Great Pumpkin!
Peanuts fans can revisit Great Pumpkin on TV, DVD: "When It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown makes its annual prime-time appearance on ABC Oct. 27 (7 p.m., Channel 13), it will mark the 40th anniversary — to the day — that Charles Schulz's Peanuts gang were brought to animated life for Halloween. Every year since, Charlie Brown has tried to kick Lucy's football, cut too many holes in his ghost costume and played second fiddle to Linus' belief in the mythical Great Pumpkin."

The stupid San Antonio TV station is preempting the Great Pumpkin for some political debate. "Not to worry," they say. "We're re-airing it at 2 a.m.!"
Sheesh. Looks like I'll have to watch my DVD of it instead. "I got a rock!"
Good grief, Charlie Brown, uh, I mean Bill Crider. 40? My daughter is 26, and she'll be watching the Great Pumpkin rise from the old pumpkin patch and fly over the land. I'll be the one sitting next to her, scarfing down miniature Snickers that I mistakenly bought too many of. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)
Is it just me or was it a nicer world in 1966? I doubt something that innocent and charming could be made today. We've lost it.
Considering my current nostalgic mood, I'd have to agree.
Um...the same 1966 where we had essentially the same problems we have today, only less awareness of them? Such as RFK officially noticing that not everyone was able to go to Harvard or the Cape? I like PEANUTS and even still have a mild fondness for the animated versions, but the Wallace and Gromit WERE-RABBIT is at least as wise and innocent and as much charming fun, to name but one production. Never mistake the world for one's self!
