Books by John D. MacDonald

Well, it turns out that I couldn't resist doing one more flickr slideshow. This one features my John D. MacDonald paperbacks, and you can see it here.

I am so jealous of this collection. I so enjoyed Travis' exploits thirty years ago. Glad to see he's beginning to come back into favor lately.

I was tempted to buy the new editions, but after picking up a few of them, I gave it up.

Well, Patti, I've been rather casually collecting MacDonald from library sales and such as much as anything else, and have nearly all of these (though no UK editions and only unintentionally duplicates)...so they're certainly out there to be had...a quick run down the secondhand sources can get them for you quickly--there are advantages for the fans of the 2nd-most-popular US cf writer of the latter half of the last century (I don't think even Grisham dislodged either, but could be wrong). Thanks for the display, Bill

You're welcome, Todd. Gold Medal had very high print runs, so those are easy enough to find, except for a couple. Ditto for Dell. The Popular Library titles are probably a little harder.

Very cool slideshow, Bill. I even have a few of those editions, like The Executioners and A Tan and Sandy Silence, myself. Love those covers. They're much better than the more recent editions.

Some of the older covers are pretty bland, but a lot of them are much better than the recent ones.

Great stuff Bill, especially the McGinnis covers. 2 friends and I did the used bookstore circuit around here on Saturday looking for, among other things, old McGinnis covers. I found a fairly nice copy of The Only Girl in the Game for one of my friends.

Congratulations. Those aren't easy to find these days.
