Woo hoo! I'm happy to see them side by side. I've got both but they are not even in the same room right now. (Actually the Hard Case Crime one is in Chattanooga with me.)

The 1970s British paperback I have kicking around somewhere has a relatively restrained cover, featuring a caricature of a woman with a fairly realistic rendering of her long green heart necklace.

Even given the attractiveness of the new cover, I think Gold Medal wins in basic marketing in both of these cases...not that the Hard Case packaging is Uncommercial. It's just hard to top the masters.

I've never seen the British edition. I do like the new cover, but I have an unremitting fondness for the original GMs.

For the record, the Gold Medal cover is by Lou Feck -- a nice piece and not as murky "in person" as your scan makes it look. However, you know very well which one gets my vote!

I should have brightened it up a little with Photoshop.

I should almost say at this time that the new one is better than the old one! But then again I don't have the original in hand.

Went and picked up a copy of this last night since I like the McGinnis cover so much!

I bought this one for the McGinnis cover. I have a couple of books on him as well as a number of old paperbacks with his covers even though I find the redheaded honey (as well as most of his women) a tad skinny.
