Well, actually you can't try them today...because this article comes with no recipes included...some links, but often to sources (e.g., in middle English) that I, for one, don't read.(On a trip to Italy a few years ago, we were served a lunch based on actual Roman recipes from the early Christian era. They tasted uniformly terrible. Of course, there were no spices available, not even pepper, so...)
Like you, I'll just have that burger.
I wouldn't eat this stuff any more than I would eat "authentic" poi or haggis. Native Hawaiians stopped eating poi as soon as possible, but still push it to the haoelie tourists as a joke. Scots don't care for "real" haggis, but act like they love it just to be ornery 8-)
Cue the Homer Simpson sound effect: Mmmmm...beef boiled in water and wildfowl pie...mmmmmmmm.
