Some Fairly Bad News

I hate to put this kind of news on such a formerly light-hearted blog, but I think I'd better get it out of the way. Judy's been going through some medical testing, and we thought things were going to turn out fine.

We were wrong.

Today we were told that she has lymphoma. That's not good news. So far, that's all we know. We don't know if it's Hodgkins or non-Hodgkins. Or anything else. She's being referred to M. D. Anderson, which is a fine cancer facility, and she'll get the best of care, I'm cure. I don't know what this means to our future, but for now I'm pretty much going to shut down the blog. If there's any good news, or bad news, I'll post it here eventually.

It's been fun, but I think the fun's over for a while. Prayers and good thoughts will be much appreciated. You guys behave yourselves.

That's bad news all right. All the best of luck and care to your wife. I'll bet you're a good person for her to depend on.

I am just so sad to hear of this, but I know so many people who have overcome this that I am hopeful.
I can't think of anyone's voice I will miss more.

I have two co-workers with relative who have been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins this year. Best wishes for a full recovery.

Bloody hell. Many, many thoughts and prayers to Judy, to you and to all your family. Cancer is a scourge, but MD Andersen is one of the best out there and I'm keeping my optimism as high as the atmosphere allows.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you and your wife. One of my family is a non-Hodgkin's survivor for more than a decade now. I hope things work out as well for the two of you and you'll be back here blogging someday.

April is not the cruellest month, at least not in 2007, it ain't; fingers crossed for sweeter news by Independence Day.

Oy. Not good news at all.

But, as others have pointed out, this can be beaten. And y'all are just the folks to do it.

Love and luck to you both.

Bill,

Please let Judy know that I, and a whole lot of other people, will be thinking of you both and wishing you our very best. My mother has fought a long, hard battle with cancer for a decade now and the best medicine she has is a sense of humor, determination, and a stubborn refusal to stop doing the things she loves (which, unfortunately, also includes continuing to smoke the cigarettes that gave her cancer). But she keeps astounding her doctors with her abiliity to beat the cancer back. She's kept blogging and it has helped her keep her sanity. All of her kids kept blogging too. Please don't stop sharing your wit and wisdom and even heart-ache with us...I think it will be good for you, too.

Dear Bill and Judy,

I will continue to picture both of you with those big, twinkling smiles of yours, and hope the universe gives you good reason to smile like that again.

Love,
Nancy Pickard

Thanks, Nancy. We're doing okay now and will find out the results of the testing on July 11. We're hoping for the best possible answers.
