Sharon Jones, R. I. P.

The New York Times: Sharon Jones, the soul singer and powerful voice of the band the Dap-Kings, died on Friday of pancreatic cancer that had been in remission but returned last year. She was 60.

Oh no--another great one lost! She might not have been as famous as Bowie or Prince or Leonard Cohen, but her "old-school soul" singing voice placed her in the pantheon. RIP, Miss Jones.

On Tuesday I'll be reviewing MISS SHARON JONES, a documentary about Sharon Jones's fight against cancer. As Jeff noted, great voice and indomitable spirit. Sharon Jones sung Soul Music like James Brown did: no limits.
