The pattern was: Hardcover (many publishers over the years), followed in a year's time by a mass-market PB, followed by eventual recycling in Davis magazine PBs.
The mass-market PBs stopped after '73, but the EQMM annuals continued in major hardcovers through '76; I think (not sure) that Davis started doing them as magazine/books aout then (correction welcomed).
It was 1977 when Davis and Dial Press joined forces to do the EQMM annuals as simultaneous hardcover/magazine issues each year, due to a contracting market for this sort of thing.
I stole most of the foregoing from Mike Nevins's books; thanx, Mike ...

Correction delivered. Or, yes, oddly enough, I can tell the difference between 1973 and 1962, and that they weren't a short bit apart
However, I might've gone to look it up...Davis Publications started issuing ELLERY QUEEN'S ANTHOLOGY as an annual in 1960...they went semi-annual in 1963. I had the second 1963 issue in sight when I wrote my earlier comment.

Probably just before Davis Publications started issuing them in magazine format?
If 1962 was "just before" 1973 ...
