Alpine was also the home of Texas transplant, award-winning author and screenplay writer H. Allen Smith. I believe he was also one of the organizers of the Terlingua Chili cook-off. He helped introduce Cincinnati style chili (it contains cinnamon) to the Lone Star State.

I remember the days of the chili wars. Smith and Frank X. Tolbert led the way. And Alpine is now the home of Scott Cupp.
