William Schallert, R. I. P.

The New York Times: William Schallert, a familiar presence on prime-time television for decades, notably as the long-suffering father and uncle to the “identical cousins” played by Patty Duke on the hit 1960s sitcom “The Patty Duke Show,” died on Sunday in Pacific Palisades, Calif. He was 93.

I remember him showing up on True Blood a couple years back. I thought he had probably passed a long time ago.

He had a couple of guest appearances everywhere.

A while back, Bill Schallert did a spot for MeTV - one of those "I'm all over ME" spots that showed off all the different shows in the inventory that he'd done.

Bill finished off with Admiral Hargrade on Get Smart; in his 90's, he had to put on the ancient admiral's quavery "old man" voice.

That's an actor.

My sister had a friend who babysat for his kids in 1965/66. I've always liked his performances and remember him from The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, as Prof Leander Pomfritt.

I was surprised to see him on a guest spot or small film role a handful of years ago.
