Apparently it was a massive heart attack.

Bummer.

An amazing writer and performer. Both his TV shows were masterpieces. His takedown of the Johnny Carson style TV show was both hilarious and savage. And Shandling had the guts to make his own character a vain narcissistic coward. "Do these pants make my ass look big?" must've been asked a hundred times in the course of the run. And of course show runner Artie had to dutifully answer. "Of course not, Gary." A major talent who died way too young. The last few times I saw him was on Bill Maher's show and he was funny as hell. As always.

Does anyone else feel that since Day One of 2016, we are witnessing the loss of an entire generation of entertainers? Every few days, there is another signifcant RIP. It's like the Grim Reaper is on a mission or something. Well, he's always on a mission, but you know what I mean.

I do feel like that, and it's only March.

Indeed. Peter Brown died recently, too.

Journalist Dave Weigel tweeted, "Damn it, 2016, I am going to find you in an alley and run you down with my car."

A real comedy innovator. Very sad to pass away at only 66 years of age.
