Those have nothing compared to the behind-the-scenes shinanegans in Richard Sales's book, THE OSCAR.

A classic. And so is the movie based on it.

The Mia Farrow-orchestrated smear of Woody Allen was despicable.

My favorite Oscar campaign was he desperate attempt by Chill Wills to get a Supporting Actor Oscar for THE ALAMO. This claimed the cast of the John Wayne-directed movie was praying for Chill to win harder than the defenders of the Alamo were praying before the battle. Wayne publicly apologized for the tasteless campaign.

Being a Texan, Chill Wills was just leading the way.

Old Chill lost to Peter Ustinov, by the way.

Note how we go from the worst smear campaigns *ever* (in the headline) to *recent history* in the sub-head.

Gotta have the clickbait headline.

I find the sympathy for Woody Allen above at least somewhat questionable. We don't get to know for certain what happened there, but given his behavior toward women generally, I'm not sure I agree that it's clearly merely a matter of Farrow spite.
