The Daily Beast: "Justin, 28, had been threatening to hurt himself on his bed, armed with a knife. Within minutes, he was shot and killed several times by police."
Update: The above is a direct quote from the article. Apparently the article has now been rewritten without any mention of the correction.

Hello, Editor!
Surely once was enough.
Don't forget--this is the same Daily Beast that assumed none of its readers had heard of Charles Willeford.
Thank goodness he didn't cut himself because that hurts!
Just checked the report, and you should be ashamed of yourself, Bill:
"Within minutes, he was shot and killed several times by police."
Killed several times?! Go back & fix that.
I don't know how they're training Police these days, but Yeeeers ago I ran into a similar situation of a guy trying to commit suicide by cop. Back then Emergency Mental Health Services wouldn't commit a guy if he was drunk, and this one was never sober.
Anyway, we were in his kitchen and he was sitting at the table swearing that he could throw the carving knife 50' with deadly accuracy, and I told him, "Look, at this range I don't have to kill you; I can blow off a kneecap or put a shot in your gut that'll leave you crapping in a plastic bag the rest of your life."
That gave him pause, but just as he as processing the information, the Sergeant at the scene barked "Don't worry, we'll kill him." and put us right back to square one.
At that point I wanted to quit and join the other side, but we eventually got him to put down the knife and, lacking any other alternative, took him to jail and he was eventually sent for treatment by a Judge.
That's a direct quote from the original article, Dan. The BEAST apparently got the word and fixed it. Your story is better.
Bill, I should never have doubted you.
