Deb's right...although I'd say "of the post-WW2 era." Not a surprising list, one I might have re-ordered to some extent. But, for the time considered, they certainly got #1 right.
In addition to the Gershwins, Porter, Rogers (and Hammerstein and Hart--where would he have been without the lyrics), Kahn--Hoagy Carmichael, Comden & Green, Johnny Mercer, Billy Strayhorn (and the Duke), Johnny Mercer, Stephen Sondheim (even if he'd only ever written "Send in the Clowns")...
