Beryl Bainbridge wrote a book in the 1970s called HARRIET SAID which I have always thought must have been based on the same events. I'm not sure Bainbridge ever confirmed that though.
Starting in the late '60s, with her wonderful DINKY HOCKER SHOOTS SMACK! I had no idea what that phrase meant when I picked up the novel. (It's a graffito slandering the protagonist in the story.)

At last, a book I actually have.

Not one of the better GM covers, though. They didn't often go the photo route.
Based on the Anne Perry/"Heavenly Creatures" situation?
Yes. Packer/Meaker was known for basing her books on current events.

In the 1970's, didn't she also write very good YA books using the name M.E. Kerr?
