The man behind the Dean Hudson curtain was Evan Hunter, and -- according to Earl Kemp -- although some of the books Hunter submitted to him as Dean Hudson may have been written by his writing students, Hunter remains the author of record.

I didn't attach Hunter's name to this one because of those rumors. I read one Dean Hudson book, and if it was written by Hunter, he wrote it while drunk and blindfolded.

I love that cover. Classy!

I suspect, Bill, that either of us could've painted it, though. (Forgive me if I slight your brushwork thus, I'm guessing you're perhaps as inadept with paints as I...or the cover artist.)

And, well, indeed, klazzy. But also too subtle in its clumsiness for the purpose. Which, really is the basis of its Charm, indeed.

I could never do as well. I'm lucky to draw stick figures.
