Richard Matheson, R. I. P.

R.I.P. Richard Matheson, Author of I Am Legend and Many Other Classics: Beloved author Richard Matheson passed yesterday at the age of 87, after a long illness. Best known for his seminal work I Am Legend, he leaves not just a legacy of great science fiction, but an indelible mark on American pop culture.

Frankly, his sf might the least of his contributions. Or close to. Compared to his fantasy and crime fiction, certainly...and his westerns and his fanbase in the romance-fiction community aren't to be sneezed at..

He outlasted Bradbury by about two years, though Bradbury was several years older when he was gone - at age 91.

The past few years' losses of writers have been sad ones.
