"Relevant" is too overused as a buzz-word to have much meaning anymore, but I'd certainly check Melville, Poe, Dickenson & Austen. Dostoevsky is perpetually left off such lists, but his works will always be "relevant" in describing interactions of human beings.

Read Anthony Trollope's The Way We Live Now for a novel that's just as relevant today as it was one hundred plus years ago.
