And, of course, Serviss was a well-known populizer of astronomy. In fact, it was because he was so well-known an astronomer, The Boston Post newspaper commissioned Serviss to write Edison's Conquest of Mars as a "sequel" to a previously published and terrible knock-off of Wells' book
