Actually, the MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON one was sort of done in an episode of THE SIMPSONS when Mel Gibson asked Homer's advice when doing a remake of that film.
True story: One morning in the mid-1980s (those Reagan-era go-go days), a friend and I were jogging around Lake Hollywood reservoir in Burbank and we saw a wallet on an empty bench. Thinking we'd be helpful and return the wallet to its owner, we picked up tne wallet and opened it--two small straws and a little pile of cocaine fell out. Discretion being the better part of valor, we left the wallet and its contents where we found it and contined on our jog.
