After the boy flipped off his teacher, school officials locked down the school and officers from several police departments responded.
The superintendent says the 14-year-old's behavior caused, “widespread student unrest.'"

These dang kids...no respect for their elders, tramping on people's lawns...
I'm glad nobody in my generation ever did anything like that.
Having been on the receiving end of that particular gesture from a junior high school student more than once, I'd say the reaction of the school was slightly excessive.
