I'd countersuggest that the fact of THE UNTELEPORTED MAN being serialized in AMAZING and reprinted unrevised wasn't the problem, so much as Dick was literarlly cranking everything out (well, speeding rather than cranking) in those years to make his payments (and to deal with his not-groundless paranoia)...
But interesting, indeed...and those novels, which I'm not sure can be segregated quite as neatly as George did, are not given their due even now, probably (though less so than previously, now that Dick has been safely separated from the Pit of Leiber and Sturgeon and Vance and Russ and Wolfe and Wilhelm and these other skiffy folks, and put with the REAL Artists like John Irving and Bret Easton Ellis.
Todd--I'm glad you mentioned the "speeding." I've always thought of Dick's books as being less Science Fiction and more amphetamine-driven nightmare visions, my favorite being UBIK.
Boy, this is really getting freaky. I don't remember writing this article. I barely remember reading the PKD books. And what was I thinking when I used words like "quintessent."

Possibly your ghost writer did this one.
Or one of them there VALISes wrote it through your byline. As long as it/they didn't collect the payment, or steal the books...
