Death of the Bookplate?

Death of the Bookplate? - Paper Cuts Blog - NYTimes.com: "Forget the death of the book. It turns out we have an even bigger problem: the death of the bookplate."

Slideshow of bookplates from the Yale collection here.

Update: Here's a nice bookplate blog.

I used to have and use them. That was before I was taught that they deface the book, not identify it as mine. I also had a seal to press the similar information, stopped using that for the same reason. I loved those book plates I had, from Antioch I believe.

I liked the paragraph on the death of the book and the reader: "I thought I was the reader."

I love bookplates but have never dared stick one in a book. I got some books from a friend's estate and they have his embossed seal, I think it's great. It's not defacing like writing all over the pages.

There is as always a different point of view.In the interest of full disclosure I am a bookplate junkie.
Finding old bookplates is my crack cocaine. It is the secret door to all kinds of hidden knowledge.
