This Is Gonna Be Great!

'Rockford Files' remake in the works - UPI.com: "NBC has announced plans to remake the 1970s U.S. private detective series 'The Rockford Files' and the contemporary British police drama 'Prime Suspect.'"

I'm thinking Adam Sander as Jim Rockford and Rob Schneider at Angel.

This is like somebody saying they're gonna repaint the Mona Lisa.

NBC is fast devolving into the most incompetent network on the air. First, the whole Leno fiasco; now remakes of shows that were fine the first time around and don't need to be remade.

I'll say the same I said elsewhere. I'm ready to kick in for a hit man for the doof-brain who thought up this one. A peashooter shoot be sufficient to do the job.

Nah, I think Conan and Jimmy Fallon will work out their contracts doing this.

They could kill two birds with one stone--cast Conan and Andy Richter as Rockford and Angel. And they could bring Leno on every once in a while as Lance White...

No, please, I beg of NBC. Leave PRIME SUSPECT the hell alone!!

I think they're looking at Britney Spears for the lead in that one.

Actually, Andy Richter could be real good in the Angel role.

I read in the paper that Pee Wee Herman is looking for a gig...

But what will they do with Garner? Bring him in for some cameo "Rocky" bits?

Oh, to hell with the TV stuff; I say, balls to the wall, go for the big screen: Mel Gibson as Jimbo; Garner as Rocky; Jodie Foster as Beth Davenport. Wait: Didn't they do that cast already in the big screen Maverick? Okay, reboot: George Clooney as Jimbo; Garner as Rocky; Julia Stiles as Beth; Jennifer Lopez as Rita Kapkovich; Paul Giamatti as Angel; Tobey Maguire as Richie Brockelman;
and keep the irreplaceable Joe Santos as Dennis Becker.

If anybody should be playing a Rockford (and I think it'd be easier to sell a Jimbo Jr.), I think David Boreanaz could fit the bill... although he's already tied up with 'Bones'.

"Having said that", the audience is going to reject the premise. There will always be just the one Rockfish.....

Too bad. The original Rockford worked because of Huggins-Cannell-Garner and a host of other supporting people in front of and behind the camera. What we all remember and enjoy about the series can't be recaptured, so this new version will just be a standard-issue private eye show with a main character named Rockford, his cranky dad, a hot lawyer, a trailer and the idea that he rarely "wins." I won't watch it unless one of you guys gives it the okay.

First, let me say I am against the remaking of TRF, but one name stands out as somebody that might make it work:

Jason Lee. He is a funny, clever guy. Forget My Name is Earl, I think he is the one that should star...if they insist on going ahead with this awful idea.

And I agree that PS should be left alone as well.

TNT moves forward to new material while NBC remakes. I honestly can't remember the last thing I watched on NBC. I watch far more TNT than almost any network.

I admit that Jason Lee would be interesting in the role. I might even give it a look. TNT's considerably more daring than the networks (and they wonder why they're losing audience share).
