The Manchurian Candidate

What's the Big Deal?: The Manchurian Candidate (1962) - Film.com: "The film stands out as one of the best paranoid political thrillers ever made, expertly balancing satire and suspense in a way that has rarely been matched."

One of those movies I saw and then went out and bought the book immediately afterward.

I love this movie - the original not the remake. There's so many unforgettable performances, to say the least Angela Lansbury. Janet Leigh on the train trying to get Frank Sinatra to memorize her phone number still cracks me up.

The original was the one I liked. I never bothered with the remake. Lansbury was probably younger than Lawrence Harvey when she played his mom.

Bill, I write about the book in an ITW anthology due out in June. It's one of my all-time favorties...

Definitely something to look forward to! Did you mention the amazing toupee changes that Sinatra goes through?

Hi, Bill...

Matter of fact Angie L was about three years older than Harvey...The anthology piece focuses on Condon's book, not the movie...Believe Sinatra's hairpieces were covered (uncovered) in "Toupee or Not Toupee," the Rat Pack version of "Hamlet," the movie that followed "The Postman Always Ring-a-ding-dings Twice."
