It wasn't so much that the Rat Patrol never had to reload nor unjam their guns, never had their jeeps tip over (as Cap'n Bob noted over on ROUGH EDGES where I was an unintentional boor about the show), never had to gas up their jeeps, never had to eat nor sleep (nor eliminate, but, then again, it was 1960s US tv for that last), nor that they managed to, by themselves, slaughter half of Rommel's forces while always missing Wo Fat (well, their German Wo Fat analog)...it wasn't so much any one of those so much as All of them put together. And the dialog, and the acting...RAT PATROL put me off when I was young enough to find some virtue in F TROOP. But I dug the Rifleman when a kid, for the brief period I could see it...and probably wouldn't have had the wit to keep the original box.
Oddly enough, Sam Peckinpah was a writer and director on The Rifleman (four episodes as director, six as a writer). He also created the Brian Keith series The Westerner.
I used to greatly enjoy "Rat Patrol" reruns on Dallas TV in the late '70s or early '80s. When season one of the series came out on DVD I immediately bought it for work. After viewing a few episodes I found that my quality standards sure were low when I was ten years old.

You know, THE RAT PATROL inherited the next generation of that gun.

I have a friend who still has his Rifleman gun in the original box. And he loves THE RAT PATROL.

The Westerner, now there was a show I really liked.
This was great. I have the rifle--no box--but it needs some upgrading.
The guy's original box needs some upgrading, too, but since he's had since he was a kid, he's attached to it.
